History & Design

History

Produced from 1898 to 1942. As the most-made Bedrock, it is the easiest to find in user grade.

Design

A 14-inch jack on the premium frame, with the full-width Bedrock frog seat. The 2-inch iron matches the No. 604.

For Collectors

The most affordable way into the Bedrock line, though still above Bailey No. 5 prices. Condition drives the value.

As a User Plane

It anchors a Bedrock bench set the same way the Bailey No. 5 does, working with a No. 604 smoother and a No. 607 jointer.

Market Value

Realized sale prices for the #605, based on ~50 recorded sales, with a median of $195.

Condition / gradeTypical range
User$89 – $165
Good / Fine$175 – $265
Extra Fine / Sweetheart$265 – $345

The most affordable larger Bedrock, with user-grade examples within reach of working woodworkers.

These are past sale prices gathered from Jim Bode's Value Guide to Antique Tools, not a current appraisal. What any given plane is worth depends mostly on its condition and type.
